The [Harrington] Project

**Keep scrolling down for photos from the show**

As my good friend, Maya, would say, HOLY CHIMOLE! I can't believe it's been just over a year since the launch of wallfarmers. What a great ride it has been! So many amazing artists, new friends and faces, crazy amounts of traveling, buses, trains, planes, ferries, bikes, skates, shoes. Dozens of galleries and art shops and art acquired.

It has been great to meet such fantastic artist during a small moment in their lives and careers then see them continue to push the envelope of their capabilities with every piece they do. It's damn hard to be an artist these day and still be able to afford life, travel for shows, postage to ship art and the occasional beers. I have such huge respect for all these artists who continue to produce and share their work with us.

The [Harrington] Project, 19 artist, most who have been a featured as artist and some who are in the cue for interviews. Live music by HUMANS + local DJs .

And a massive massive thank you to the most generous Mr. Glen Strange of Strange Design who did the fantastic work on the posters & flyers! You're tops buddy!

As with any event, there is bound to be glitches and bumps along the way. I've thrown or been a part of enough shows that I thought the simplicity of this one would make it one of the most incident free events ever.

I think the biggest issue was that after my date was chosen and flyers/posters made, I learned 3 days before the show that the local college, NIC, was having their art opening that same night. As well, 2 other art shows and Mat the Alien was playing at the Waverly in Cumberland. Since *almost nothing* happens in Courtenay, it was a bit of a piss off that so much was happening on a night that I had a date booked since September. Well, what can you do except for buy a bunch of beer, get a fantastic band and rock out with a shit ton of amazing art. So, that's what we did.

I did a real fast round trip to pick up Peter and Robbie of the amazing Vancouver based band, HUMANS. We harassed a lot of people on the ferry. It was also Peter's first trip on the ferry and the first time to Courtenay for both of them. The seas were rough that night and Robbie wanted everyone to read up on cold water boating so he passed out copies of Pacific Yachting to the people standing around in the gift shop. We didn't get kicked out.

Stachetober Fest 2009 tee, image by Michael Hsiung.

Michael and Lisa had shipped their art up from their respective homes in California, USA. As the deadline came and went, we were all concerned about what happened to their packages. The day of the show, with nothing in the post yet, I improvised. Michael had done the image for Stachetober and Lisa gifted me a sweet little print I could frame.

Same postal stress with Justin Nelson's work coming from Florida. One piece showed up the day before the show and the trading cards sent at the same time still haven't shown up.

Thankfully, all of Justin's major pieces arrived safe and sound and everyone had pieces in the show. For Michael and Lisa and Justin's trading cards, when it all shows up, I will hang it and post some more photos.

May I present, the wallfarmers trading card wall.

In the call for submissions each artist was offered two trading card size canvases to be donated to the show. These cards where of different types of art paper, canvas and illustration board. Graciously, pretty well every artist put in at least one donated card. A couple of artists who were unable to have big pieces ready for the opening, still took the time to create and donate amazing cards for the wall. Each card is 2.5 x 3.5, framed and sold at 30$.

Sorry guys, I had to post this. See that surly looking gent on the left? That's Peter Ricq who also has another little musical dig called Autacoid. If you want to see more of this face he's trying to pull over there, check out his music video, Not You.

The pointer there is Robbie Slade, part 2 of the Vancouver band, HUMANS.  For those of you not on your game that night, I have some of their CD's that will be available from the site next week.

The other half-face you see there is JPrime, a.k.a. Jer Atkinson. Jer has been working with a UK based internet radio station called nsbradio.co.uk and has recently recorded and released a track through Luck Breaks recording label. There will be a release party update coming soon. Nicely done sir!

Maya had the camera for a while and got a shot of me sitting on my ass. Damn, look at that chicken wing, I need to start working that tri-press a little harder!

wallfarmers[dot]ca

After the opening we all hit Gordon Ross Studio for a little after arty.

Thanks so much to all the artists involved, for all the love and support from Maya & Sperlin, Scott, Jer, Peter, Robbie, Darren, Gillian, Gordon and Matt H.

It's been a pretty rad year.
